A newborn Silverwing bat named Shade, is the runt of his colony. One day, Shade broke the law which was that he saw the Sun. The owls wanted justice, but the elder bat, Frieda wasn't going to sacrifice Shade. The owls then burned down the bat roost. After that, the Silverwing colony migrated South to Hibernaculum but Shade got lost in a storm. Shade met a banded Brightwing bat named Marina and two gigantic Vampire bats named Goth and Throbb. Shade also met an albino bat named Zephyr who told him his missing father was alive.Shade made a harsh journey to Hibernaculum, fougt off Goth and Throbb, and Marina joined his colony.
